This summer, Autism Solutions Academy welcomed numerous community members to our schools. These visitors engaged with students in a variety of activities, which strengthened our curriculum and provided students with hands-on experiences with many topics. Our students also benefitted socially through their interactions with these amazing community members.
Community Visitors
Each month, our lessons and project-based learning activities (PBLs) revolve around a theme. This summer, our monthly themes were: Art History, Olympic Sports, and Carnival. Our community visitors helped enhance lessons and provided valuable insights for our students. Some of our visitors over the last three months have included: Art Haven, The Origami Lady, Ready Race Parties, Snapology, Springville Museum of Art, Fire Departments, Salt City Sword Fencing Club, Ogden Nature Center, Bean Life Science Museum, Emerald Kids Yoga, and Loveland Aquarium.
Inclusive Teaching
Teachers outdid themselves planning adapted learning activities all summer to help keep our students excited about learning and engaging meaningfully in lessons. For example, students played tennis with balloons instead of balls and learned to “swim” sitting on a blue ocean floor. In one class, students shot basketball “hoops” with paper balls to learn counting and distance.
Our Olympic month came to an end with students creating their own team jerseys prior to their participation in our field day filled with adapted Olympic-themed games, including opening ceremonies.
We appreciate all our community partners whose donations make events like these possible.
